The Elvio Cogno Winery was formed by master winemaker Elvio and continues to produce wines that respect the history of the family today. They maintain, unaltered, traditions and styles that express the flavor and grape varieties of the Langhe.
We tasted these wines together on May 1st. You can watch it here:
2017 Elvio Cogno Langhe Nascetta del Commune di Novello Anas-Cetta, $30.99
The 2017 Langhe Nascetta del Comune di Novello Anas-Cëtta is fermented and aged on the lees in stainless steel. The creaminess you taste here comes thanks to the natural characteristics of the grape and that 180-day sur-lie aging. This is a fresh, lean- to medium-bodied white with pretty aromas of stone fruit, melon, and Golden Delicious apple.

2017 Elvio Cogno Dolcetto d'Alba "Mandorlo", $19.99
A generous, luscious, and fruit-forward wine. It is teeming with ripe blackberry and sweet spice, yet there is also a very attractive tone of new leather. It should be noted that this wine only sees stainless steel, so those savory flavors come from the grape itself. A terrific job of showcasing the elegant side of this workhorse grape. Great value here.

2016 Barolo Cascina Nuova, $57.99
The 2016 Barolo Cascina Nuova is a terrific wine with impeccable balance. The bouquet offers dark fruit aromas, licorice, smoke, tar, and spice. These aromatic pieces slide together with precision to create an intriguing and multifaceted puzzle. It shows good fruit weight and concentration, reinforced by firm tannins, freshness, and a silky mouthfeel. This is a terrific go-to Barolo from a classic vintage. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and then ages for two years in botte grande made with Slavonian oak.
