Name: Forlorn Hope Kerrigans Carignan
Country: United States
Sub-Region: Mendocino County
Producer: Forlorn Hope
From the Winery:
"The Poor family has been farming grapes, row crops, and fruit trees as well as ranching cattle on their hillside property in Mendocino County, just outside of Hopland, since the 1880s. In the early 1950s they planted the Carignan vines which would eventually yield the fruit for our Forlorn Hope "The Kerrigans". Dry farmed, organically grown, and completely tended by John Poor and his son, their 60 acre ranch is a window into another era -- a time when there were still corners of the state which could be claimed, farmed, and nurtured into a viticultural legacy by any family with a desire to be self-sufficient and no aversion to hard work. Our 2014 The Kerrigans was picked in early September and fermented with 50% stem inclusion. It saw 10 months elevage in neutral 500L puncheons and barrique, and was bottled unfined and unfiltered."
