Name: Tikves Barovo Red
Country: Macedonian Republic
Varietal: Red Blend
Wine Advocate Review: 91-93 points
"Tasted as a barrel sample and coming from higher-elevation vineyards, the 2012 Barovo is made from 60% Vranac and 40% Kratosija (another local variety) and was aged 15 months in 70% new and one-year-old barrels and 30% in concrete tank. What should be another smoking value from this team, it has tons of black raspberry, cassis, chocolate, ground herbs and melted licorice to go with a full-bodied, supple, seamless and sexy style on the palate. While, again, I don’t know this variety’s evolution well, when it’s showing this good in its youth, there's no reason to delay gratification. Drink this beauty over the coming 3-5 years.
Coming from Macedonia and under the guidance of Philippe Cambie, Tikves continues to produce high quality, value priced wines that over deliver."
