From the Winery:
"A fragrant nose of red and black raspberry, lavender, and cherry licorice. On the palate, ripe cherry and sweet cranberry lead to a cinnamon and clove mid-palate. A rich, spicy, and long finish offers a collection of dark blue fruits mingled with spice tones of anise, white pepper, and sassafras. The texture is round and mouth-coating yet constrained by solid acidity."

Wine Enthusiast Review: 93 points
"Tasted alongside the winery’s light and elegant 2010 Pinots, this 2009 Reserve boldly stands out. The fleshy, black fruit flavors are bigger and fuller across the palate than those from the later vintage. The finish is streaked with a cola note and will leave you reaching for the bottle as soon as your glass is empty."

Vinous Review: 92 points
"Bright ruby. Sexy, intensely perfumed aromas of dark berry compote, vanilla, cola and anise, with subtle floral notes building with air. Fleshy and smooth in texture, offering sweet blackberry and boysenberry flavors and an exotic touch of candied lavender. Finishes broad and very long, with lingering cola and fruitcake qualities."

Wine Spectator Review: 91 points
"Polished, vibrant and rich in flavor, offering currant and blueberry pie flavors that expand as the finish rolls on against refined tannins. 89 cases made."

Wine Advocate Review: 91 points
"The fruit for the Cote Est cuvee is trucked to California where it is made by Steve Ryan, formerly of Martinelli. The 2009 Pinot Noir Cote Est was fermented with native yeasts and aged in 60-70% new oak. Ruby red in color, the bouquet exhibits notes of dried herbs and spices, floral aromas cherry, and raspberry. This sets the stage for a velvety-textured, succulent, concentrated, nicely proportioned wine that has enough structure to evolve for 1-2 years. This pleasurable offering will drink well through 2019."
