Join us Thursday, August 20th at 6:30pm for a Zoom Burgundy tasting with Allen Meadows of Burghound.com, which is the result of a nearly lifelong passion for the wines of Burgundy. For more than 30 years, Allen has been collecting the wines and visiting the region. Each year he spends over five months visiting, researching, tasting, exploring, and evaluating. Because Burgundy is so fiendishly complex, so frustratingly inconsistent, and maddeningly difficult to separate the real deal from the look-alike pretenders, he created his website (and has written an amazing book on the subject) to make understanding burgundy easier and help consumers with their purchases. I have known Allen for a long time and regard him as THE most important writer on Burgundy. I am very happy to introduce you to him and to hear his thoughts on these three wines and on Burgundy in general.

Thursday's tasting will include (we will taste them in this order):
2017 Latour-Giraud Meusault "Cuvee Charles Maxime", $69.99
Here too there is a whiff of petrol to the pretty aromas of acacia blossom, hazelnut, and essence of pear. On the palate there is also fine volume to the caressing and attractively textured medium-bodied flavors that possess good fat while exhibiting fine length on the balanced finale. Drink 2022+
Purchase the Meursault here:
2012 Joseph Drouhin Vosne-Romanee, $49.99
A classic Vosne nose is redolent of a broad array of spice elements along with ripe red and black currant aromas. There is better vibrancy to the intensely mineral-driven and tautly muscular medium weight flavors that are very firmly structured on the impressively long finish. This is actually relatively robust and certainly more so than is usually the case with this wine.
Purchase the Vosne-Romanee here:
2014 Bouchard Pere et Fils Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru "les Lavieres", $89.99
This too possesses enough wood and menthol to fight a bit with the more elegant and equally ripe dark berry liqueur, earth, and cassis aromas. The opulent, round, and very suave middle-weight flavors possess both good volume and solid mid-palate density before culminating in a relatively refined if slightly austere finish that offers very good depth as well as fine length. This is also going to require at least moderate patience. Drink 2022+

Remember, you can pick up the wines prior to the tasting with curbside pick up.
We hope you will join us each Thursday at 6:30!
