Wines for the March 20th Zoom Tasting

Regular price $0.00 $82.97 Unit price per

Our clients have been raving about the three 3L BIB wines which we carry - the Petite Frog, Mus Rose, and Tiza Tempranillo - so I thought it would be fun and interesting to taste them together. They are fantastic, bang for the buck wines. We hope you will join us and the importer, Fran Kysela MS, at 4:00 on Saturday, March 20th.

The tasting will include, in this order

La Petite Frog, $32.99 per 3L BIB (the equivalent of $8.25 per bottle)

This wine consists of 100% Picpoul (or Piquepoul) - a very popular, traditional local variety planted on sun-drenched hillsides called "costières" (coastal region) in the Mediterranean garrigue, near the Etang de Thau - a coastal lagoon situated between the port of Sète and Marseillan. The vines are 15-20 years old. The garrigue is the name given to open scrubland made up of low-growing, dwarf bushy shrubs including holm oak, juniper, broom, and wild herbs such as rosemary, thyme, and sage. The color is a superb pale yellow with bright hues. The nose is elegant, with aromas of fresh fruit and citrus fruit – especially grapefruit. Well-balanced with typical focusing and zesty acidity. A pure expression of the grape varietal, the wine shows how good Picpoul can be when grown on its favorite terroir. This wine impresses novices and geeks equally.

Domaine de Mus Rose, $29.99 per 3L BIB (the equivalent of $7.50 per bottle)

This blend of Grenache and Cinsault has a nice rose petal color with mango shades. On the nose, dominating notes of raspberry, wild peach, and pink pomelo are present. On the palate it is round and refreshing with a crisp mix of red fruit and citrus notes. Delicious, acidulous harmony.

Tiza Tempranillo, $19.99 per 3L BIB (the equivalent of $5 per bottle)

Tiza means ‘chalk’ - an ode to the soil. The one-foot-deep topsoil is composed of sand and red clay, blended with chunks of pure chalk. Another layer of chalk mixed with sand lies under the soil. The best Cencibel (Tempranillo) vineyards are selected for Tiza. Most are bush vines at 700 meters above sea level with an average age of 30+ years. This 100% Tempranillo is fermented like a Rhône style red with whole berry skin contact. Juicy, clean, and fresh with aromas and flavors of ripe black fruit, blueberries, black cherries, and hints of dark chocolate. Full-bodied with a solid texture, velvety tannins, and a slightly sweet, creamy finish.
