Join us Thursday, October 29th at 6:30pm for a Zoom tasting of Cru Beaujolais from Mommessin with Managing Director Gregory Large. Founded in 1865, Mommessin has been bringing the world excellent wines from Beaujolais and Burgundy since it began exporting in 1890. Through their own properties as well as long-term contracts with growers, some over 100 years old, they are able to consistently produce exceptional wines of quality. In 1889, Mommessin acquired La Grange Saint-Pierre, several ancient stone buildings in Mâcon that originally belonged to the Abbey of Cluny. The abbey’s emblem is the Key of Saint Peter which became an enduring symbol at the Mommessin winery. It can be seen today on all of the Mommessin wines.

Thursday's tasting will include these three wines, tasted in this order:

2016 Mommessin Moulin-a-Vent les Grandes Mises, $24.99

Intense red in color with ruby highlights. Bold nose with notes of well-integrated oak. Next come aromas of black fruit, blueberry, spicy and floral notes, such as iris and peony. Full-bodied on the palate with flavors of black fruit which echo the nose. Elegant hints of oak and lovely acidity enliven this wine. Solid tannins. A touch of sucrose on the finish and nice length.

2017 Chateau Pierreux Brouilly Grande Reserve, $26.99

Deep garnet color. On the nose, it is very intense and reveals subtle and varied perfumes. The forest fruits blend wonderfully with notes of pepper and licorice that complicate this aromatic panel. Fleshy and warm, powerful and sweet. A palette of fruits invades our senses to reveal a beautiful length.

2017 Mommessin Cote de Brouilly les Grandes Mises, $19.99

A characteristic mineral terroir associated with a long maceration and oak aging reveal a remarkable wine. The nose reveals discreet aromas of red fruits with violets and peonies. The taste, lightly smoked, follows with a fine balance of silky tannins and red-berry fruits, spicy and chocolate notes with an excellent long finish.
