An "Outstanding", very affordable white Burgundy

One of the great things about the wines of Chablis is the fact that they are often such fantastic values relative to white wines of the same quality from just a few miles south in the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. This is an excellent illustration of that.

The 2018 Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Montee de Tonnerre, only $42.99, is just a fabulous wine. Allen Meadows (Burghound.com, THE expert on the wines of Burgundy) rates it 90-93 points, saying: "This too is markedly floral in character with its airy and cool nose of citrus, seashore and shellfish hints. The mouth feel of the intense medium weight flavors is also quite sleek and even more mineral-driven on the classy, long and slightly more complex and structured finale. Sweet Spot Outstanding. 90-93 points."

"Sweet Spot Outstanding" is Allen's highest accolade and, in this day when it seems like everything gets 95 points or more, 90-93 points from him is high praise indeed.

Grill a lobster and serve this with it for a match made in heaven, or just shuck a couple of dozen briny oysters (no cocktail sauce, please!)!
