We tasted the 2014 Zind-Humbrecht Gewurztraminer Turkheim last week and were so blown away by it, we bought all 22 cases that were available. As a result, we are able to offer it to you for $14.99. There is only one other retailer for this wine in the country and their price is $29.99!
Domaine Zind-Humbrecht is inarguably the most acclaimed winery in Alsace and is one of the pioneers of biodynamic winemaking. The 2014 Gewurztraminer is especially fine because there was no Old Vines Herrenweg produced in 2014, so those grapes went into the Turkheim bottling. Zind-Humbrecht is very helpful in that they have an indication of the sweetness level on the label and this is "Indice 1" meaning that it is totally dry. And it is just a fabulous expression of this grape - very full-bodied, spicy and rich, with lychee nuts and caramelized apricots on the nose, a rich mid-palate with those caramelized apricots and Georgia peaches. It is beautiful now but will provide immense pleasure for another 4-5 years.
