We have been out of the 2016 Gaja Ca'Marcanda Bolgheri Rosso Magari for several months now so we were very pleased to be offered the 2017 vintage. It's the latest in a string of successes for this wonderful blend of the Bordeaux varietals Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. It is medium-bodied with pronounced tannins (at this young age) and scads of black currant fruit. This wine is a testament to the genius of Angelo Gaja and his family - an extraordinary and balanced wine from a very hot vintage which was problematic for a lot of less gifted or dedicated winemakers.
It's only $62.99 and you can meet Gaia Gaja at our Zoom tasting of this, the 2015 Pieve di Santa Restituta Brunello di Montalcino and the 2016 Gaja Barbaresco at 6:30 on Thursday, on October 8th!
Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate agrees with us, saying: "Angelo Gaja and his family have worked this vintage with a deft hand. The hot 2017 growing conditions have been harnessed for their positive attributes, such as the thickness and the dark concentration of the fruit and, consequently, the wine's freshness. Any negative implications have been absolutely eliminated and worked through. Nothing escapes Angelo's watchful eye. The 2017 Bolgheri Rosso Magari is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. 94+ points."
And on October 8th, we will hear from Gaia herself what the perfect dish is to enjoy with it!
