We tasted the 2014 Alexander Valley Vineyards Cyrus a couple of weeks ago and were just blown away by it. Deep, rich, dark fruit - pronounced but well-integrated oak - wonderful texture on the palate - tannins beginning to soften with bottle age - and an absolutely gorgeous 90 second plus finish (one mark of a really great wine!). It just gives you everything you want from a California blend of Bordeaux varietals (62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Cabernet Franc, 17% Merlot, 2% Malbec, and 1% Petit Verdot). For me, the finest California red wine under $100 (perhaps under $200) that I have tasted in recent memory. It is drinking beautifully now and will continue to do so for 15+ years if stored in a cool cellar.
Decanter Magazine agrees with us, saying: "A stunning wine with a beautiful balance between the ripe black fruit of the Cabernet Sauvignon and the vibrant red berry fruit of the Cabernet Franc. Wonderful nuances of dried herbs, rose petals, tobacco, cedar, and toffee. 97 points."
And here's the kicker. According to a website that monitors wine pricing worldwide, we have the lowest price in the world for this absolutely glorious wine at $47.99!
