Two Of Italy's Finest White Wines

It is understandable, when thinking about Italian wine, to focus on the justifiably famous reds such as Brunello di Montalcino, Barolo and Barbaresco. However, it is a mistake to ignore the white wines - some of which are just as special if perhaps less famous.

We are pleased to offer two of Italy's most special white wines.

2016 Pieropan Soave la Rocca, $29.99

If the only Soave you have ever tasted is Bolla, it is understandable that you yawn when I suggest a Soave as one of Italy's most fabulous wines. But this is an animal of very different stripes. Full-bodied, dry, rich with an intriguing almond kernel aroma, it is a very serious wine. The perfect wine for calamare, or grilled red snapper, or roast chicken stuffed with lemon and rosemary. 94 points from The Wine Advocate and deserving of that accolade.

2016 Jermann Tunina, $54.99

The Gambero Rosso (The Bible of Italian winemaking) recently named Jermann as the #1 winery for white wines in all of Italy. This blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia, and Picolit is one of my favorite white wines in the world. Extremely rich and concentrated, very viscous on the palate, a powerful presence redolent of ripe apricots and white peaches with intense balancing minerality. Again, a very serious wine. The perfect wine to pair with a strong cheese like Taleggio or Gorgonzola. 94 points from The Wine Advocate and also very deserving of that praise.
